Concept
The installation, titled "TRIANGLE," is a temporary light installation situated in the area surrounding the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Duinenkerk-church in the municipality of Mariakerke, Ostend.
TRIANGLE connects three points in the landscape that correspond precisely with the edges of James Ensor's 1887 painting, "Great View of Mariakerke."
These points are the polder (a), the dunes (b) and the city (c).
The installation uses powerful laser beams to create a new frame within the existing environment.
The light allows visitors to experience the landscape in a different way, stimulating their imagination and evoking feelings of wonder.
Visitors are able to walk freely under and along the installation, discovering their own "NEW Great View of Mariakerke."
The installation was installed during the closing ceremony of the James Ensor year 2024, which was commissioned by the Ostend Tourism Board.
